Rejoice, all who loves to shop in the Japanese shopping haven that is Harajuku, because Swedish fast-fashion retail giant H&M (Hennes & Mauritz) is going to open its first Japanese store in the heart of it all. Along with an exclusive designer collection to boot. But hold your cosplay-clad horses, because the 16,200 square feet building is still in the works and is only set to open in November 2008.
While H&M slowly torments us with the anticipation of waiting for it to open in the ultra-trendy area, the aforementioned designer collection which H&M promises is the carrot at the end of the stick. With impressive collaborations with designers like Stella McCartney to Roberto Cavalli to Karl Lagerfeld which were all crazy-crowd-snatching sellouts, mind you. Hence I’m sure the next designer collaboration will definitely not be a disappointment.
What better way to celebrate the opening of a shop in Japan than to have avant-garde Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons, do the honours with a collection? Comme des Garcons’ clothes may not be very mainstream but hey, I think if you’re already shopping in Harajuku, these clothes are surely quite normal to you.
With a range for you, me, him and her, there’s bound to be something for everyone. For those who can’t survive on just bread and water for the next two months, there are also not-so-guilty splurges like accessories and even a new fragrance. I know I’ll definitely get an accessory.
With such an awesome one-time collaboration with Comme des Garcons, I’m positive avant-garde fashion lovers will definitely be queuing up along the streets of Harajuku for the opening of the new H&M store, by hook or by polka-dotted crook. Don’t be surprised to see Gwen Stefani in the queue with you for I’m sure she wants in onto the exclusive H&M collection too.
